Playing Sports

When you played sports year round. You had no choice but to be in shape. Then you also had PE classes every day. Exercise was a way of life. The exercises you did for football did not work for basketball. Which caused new muscle pains to deal with. I am not complaining because I loved every minute. The thrill of winning far out weighed the heart break of defeat. The lasting friendships are a strong bond. I still talk with my coach from the late sixties into the early seventies. In all the sports sportsmanship were important for the players. In high school sports it was demanded by the schools for coaches and players. The schools were part of a statewide organization. The director of this group had final say over any misconduct. Sometimes it was a reprimand or suspension of a coach or player. There were games that required a spectator to be removed. Sportsmanship was also required of the officials. You could not let the screaming at you to bother you. Not that we did not make mistakes. But some people did not know the rules. Parents were convinced their child was the next pro prospect. I did see some great players over the years. Some went on to grat college careers A few did make it to the pro's.
